Pattaya City (Thai: เมืองพัทยา) might be best known for its buzzing nightlife and sun-drenched beaches, but just offshore lies a completely different kind of thrill – an underwater world of sunken steel giants. For wreck diving enthusiasts, Pattaya is a goldmine. With 7 shipwrecks around the local Pattaya island dive sites Whether you’re a newly certified diver with a Wreck Specialty on your radar or a seasoned technical diver chasing deep penetrations, Pattaya offers the perfect training ground.
Thanks to its unique geography and military history, the waters surrounding the Pattaya Islands and Samae San Marine Park are home to some of the most accessible and exciting shipwrecks in Thailand. Divers from around the world come here to explore wartime relics, hone their wreck penetration skills, and rack up deep dives on purpose-sunk patrol boats and historic cargo ships.
Here are our top three wreck dives in Pattaya, and why they deserve a spot on your dive log:
The HTMS Kut is the closest wreck to Pattaya and a great introduction to the area’s rich underwater military history. It may offer variable visibility, but what it lacks in clarity, it makes up for in atmosphere and accessibility. There’s an eerie beauty to the overgrown deck, with soft and hard coral slowly taking over the structure.
The engine room, corridors, and sub-deck swim-throughs provide a perfect training ground for advanced wreck courses, technical divers, and even aspiring wreck instructor candidates. Whether you’re doing your first penetration or brushing up your instructor demo dives, the Kut delivers challenges and opportunities at every turn.
The newest additions to Pattaya’s wreck scene, these two side-by-side patrol boats were purpose-sunk to create an exciting artificial reef system. Lying in ~20m of water, they’re easily accessible and absolutely perfect for wreck diver training, especially while the structures are still fresh with minimal silt and wide-open penetration paths.
Marine life is already claiming territory, and while coral coverage is still in its infancy, the dive potential here is immense. From early wreck awareness training to technical dive drills, the T-Wrecks are a gift to divers who want to work on clean, controlled penetrations with plenty of exploration options.
No list of Pattaya wrecks would be complete without the legendary Hardeep Wreck. Sunk during a WWII bombing raid in 1945, this 100m-long steam cargo ship lies on her side at ~26m, drawing in experienced divers from across the world.
With strong currents and deep penetration routes through the cathedral-like cargo holds, engine room, and stern quarters, she offers a serious challenge. For technical divers, deeper exploration leads to the original bombs – still intact but defused by the Thai Navy – which remain a haunting reminder of her war-torn past.
This dive isn’t just a wreck — it’s an experience. From history buffs to deep spec enthusiasts, the Hardeep keeps you coming back for more.
Dreaming of dropping into the shadowy corridors of a sunken ship? From there, you’ll want to build your skills with key specialties like the PADI Deep Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, and Sidemount Diver courses to maximize your dive time, safety, and versatility underwater.
Of course, the real highlight is the PADI Wreck Diver Specialty, where you’ll learn how to navigate, assess, and penetrate wrecks safely. But why stop there? Check out our Wreck Diving Internship – a full package that includes all the essential training and dives you need to become a true Master Wreck Diver.
